When a man establishes a business he first considers the operating costs. If he makes only 2 per cent profit he will probably soon fail. If he makes 8 per cent he can remain solvent. If he makes 20 per cent or more he will soon be rich.

Man's investment in the kingdom of God involves a similar principle. If a man uses seven days a week, 365 days a year, to make money, to build his house and garden, to build a portfolio in the stock market, he makes no investment in the kingdom of God. He simply lives on the physical plane, which has no future.

If we give one tenth or more of our money and one seventh or more of our time, investing them in God's program to save men, if we inspire the discouraged and lift up the fallen, we are investing for the future. We are putting money in the bank of heaven where it will not rust or decay. There in eternity we will get the full investment, some 50 and some 100 per cent. If we invest life in ourselves alone we will be bankrupt for eternity.

There are many people, diligent and successful in this world's business, who have ceased to care about other people, whose influence for God and for the good of others has ceased to function. We are to be different. Give out your Christian influence as freely as the sun gives its heat and light over the earth. Develop loving atmosphere and spread it everywhere as the flowers pour forth their perfume.

In the garden, a week is enough for the rye grass seed to sprout and the lawn to begin to green. Three weeks will answer for most flower seeds to burst forth; and it will take the summer for the corn to mature, four or five summers for the peach tree to reach maturity, and perhaps fifty years for the oak tree to reach majestic proportions. In the realm of personal relations, the sweetening of the lives of our children and our friends, the uplifting of others, requires a lifetime. The investment of ourselves in the transforming of people is never impaired by a stock market crash. Here the annual dividend is never suspended. This is where we make an eternal profit.
